Agave potatorum

Stays relatively small and compact with stunning, very sharp spines.  These two photos are of the same plant in different lighting.  Above, in full, midday sun, and to the right,
the blue glow in the early morning.

Very easy plant to grow.
This one is in a pot with two pups.
It is probably root bound.
Water when dry in summer and
occasionally in winter.
Does well in full sun but appreciates a bit of shade in the hot, later summer sun.

Ipomoea carnea

My Ipomoea carnea struggled in hot, full sun, for many years.  I finally decided to remove it and throw it away.  It sat on top of the compost heap for a while, until it dawned on me that this plant had developed a beautiful caudex and could be (should be), salvaged.

I potted it up, with the root ball (caudex) well above the soil line.  It didn't take long before a beautiful new plant began to take shape.  It also seems to appreciate this part sun location.

I'm so glad this didn't end up as compost!!
